About the event
This workshop is designed to help parents of children in Years 3–4 explore ways to make reading at home fun, rewarding, and engaging. As children transition from learning to read to reading for meaning, their reading habits and preferences begin to take shape. This session will provide practical advice and insights into how we teach and encourage reading at this stage of Primary.
During the presentation, we will:
Explain how reading is approached in Years 3–4 and the progression from phonics to fluency and comprehension.
Share strategies to encourage reading for enjoyment and help children explore different genres, authors, and topics.
Discuss how to support comprehension skills through questioning, summarizing, and predicting.
Introduce ideas for creating a positive reading environment at home, including family reading time, library visits, and book recommendations.
Provide tips on how to balance reading aloud with independent reading to build confidence and fluency.
Whether your child is an avid reader or more reluctant, this session will equip you with tools to nurture a lifelong love of reading.
