Understanding the Secondary Student Experience

The transition from Primary to Secondary is one of the most significant milestones in a child’s educational journey. At Discovery College, we consider stepping into secondary as a purposeful evolution, in which students progress to the next stage in their learning journey rather than changing schools. We understand that for parents, this comes with its own set of questions. How will my child be supported as a secondary student who has 8-10 different teachers? What opportunities for choice and personalisation exist at Discovery College? What does academic rigour in the MYP look like in practice? How do we prepare students today for the global university landscape of tomorrow?

An Introduction to the Secondary Student Experience has been designed to answer these questions through a series of active engagements that tell the story of the secondary experience at Discovery College. Rather than a traditional presentation, this event offers a series of dynamic, 20 minute rotations that allow you to see, hear, and feel the DC Secondary journey through the eyes of our students and those who create the conditions for them to thrive.

• An Introduction to the Secondary Student Experience (Led by College Principal & Heads of Sector)

• Student Leadership Panel (Led by Student Scholars, Council Reps, & Service Leaders)

• Secondary Learning Spaces Tour (Led by Student Ambassadors)

• Secondary Learning Living Library (Led by Curriculum Leaders & Y6-Y13 Students)

• Post 16 Pathways and Higher Education (Led by Higher Education Team and DP Coordinator)

• Personalised Student Support (Led by Year Level Dean and Counselling Staff)
