Overview
Located deep in the mountains north of Guilin, Laozhai Village is home to nearly 40 families who all share the same last name of Zhao. The village is recognised as one of the ancient villages by the Chinese Government.
Known for the village's unique festivals, clothing, and mountainous lifestyles, students joining this trip will apply their design thinking and collaborative approach in understanding the impact of tourism developments, the challenges to the local community, and explore and discuss possible solutions.
Futhermore, students will have opportunities to immerse themselves in Laozhao village's unique culture by doing various activities such as basket weaving, woodworking, tofu making, fishing, etc.

Discover and learn the unique culture of the ancient village in China.
Understanding the impact of tourist developments in Laozhai, their challenges, and design possible solutions for how to solve these challenges.
Culture immersion with local villagers for practise Mandarin language as well as learn new skills in tofu making, woodworking, basket weaving, etc.
Explore the breathtaking natural landscapes in Guangxi region including a walking tour, visit local stunning markets and temple visits, and city karst landscape.
