Overview
For Sustainability Week, students will explore conservation and recycling efforts in Hong Kong.
The programme will take place in one of the heritage quarters of Hong Kong and features an experience that highlights the over 115-year history of Tai Po’s iconic monument, Island House. Students will gain practical tips for sustainable living, explore the mangrove, rocky, and sandy shores around the island, and visit the landmark helipad of Tolo Harbor. A key highlight includes a marine litter upcycling workshop known as the Sea Glass Workshop.
The itinerary includes hands-on activities that emphasises the importance of coastal environmental protection. Students will take on the role of oceanographers, investigating seawater properties and marine organisms while learning about the impacts of human activity on marine biodiversity.
Additionally, students will engage in soap cycling and soap arts activities, including distributing the recycled soap in a local neighborhood to promote community hygiene. This week of experiential learning will culminate in designing a one-day service project related to sustainability in Hong Kong, guided by a trip leader.
