General Information.

No Boundaries Program Dates

Beyond Hong Kong Program (Year 8-12)

Please read the explanation of the travel document entry requirements, safety measures, device policy, and cost before proceeding. By signing up for a trip Beyond Hong Kong and paying the first deposit, you are acknowledging these requirements.

Travel Document and Entry (Visa) Requirements

It is the family's responsibility to check that the students has the following in place prior to departure:

  • passport validity must be six months from the date of departure

  • [for travellers to China] Mainland Return Card or China Travel Card must be valid minimum until the return date to Hong Kong

  • entry requirements for the destination country

It may mean that you need to apply for a visa (if required). Some cases will require an e-visa or an ordinary paper/sticker visa. The requirements may vary depending on the nationality of the passport holder.

  • Valid HK Identity Card (HKID) - in Hong Kong, any person from 11 years old of age must have HKID. This is a required document for your child to return to Hong Kong.

Please check and review very carefully, allowing sufficient time to renew the required travel document and/or to go through the process of applying for a visa and HK Identity Card (HKID). Do not leave the paperwork application at the last minute, as this could lead to the student not being able to travel.

If travel document validity or visa requirements are not met, your child will be refused boarding by the airline at the airport or denied entry by immigration. Unfortunately, this is a situation beyond the College’s control and may not be able to help - you may need to pick up your child from where they are.

Device Policy

There is no requirement to bring electronic devices such as mobile phones, tablets, or laptops. They may pose safety risks to our students and the people around them. With experiential learning, we aim to promote teamwork and social interaction, talking in person and being fully present in the moment. Students may wish to bring a digital camera, but staff will take and share photographs throughout the trip.

We adopt no news is good news. Our students travel with the DC staff and staff from an external provider. Rest assured that all staff are well-prepared to look after the students during the trip, and every staff interacting with our students have gone through a background check.

Safety Measures

In every Beyond Hong Kong trip, we follow ESF's strict guidelines of student and staff ratio. Students are supervised at a ratio of 1:12 by DC staff. In addition, we have professionals from the service provider with whom we have been working for the last few years. They know and are very familiar with the local situation and have prepared an itinerary suitable for our students. Every activity in the itinerary is risk-assessed and discussed prior to the student's arrival. Any higher-risk activities like caving, kayaking etc are supervised at lower ratios for safety.

Students and staff are covered under Zurich travel group insurance. There is no need for parents to purchase individual travel insurance for their children to join the trip. In addition, we engage International SOS which oversees every trip and activity. They support us with risk assessments in the early stages of planning and provide guidance for any issues that may be relevant to the locations we visit. Their extensive doctors network and security experts are available 24 hours a day, ready anytime we need medical advice and support. They can liaise with medical experts in the local vicinity, give us advice on where to go and what to do if we have any issues and if necessary they will coordinate evacuation of individuals or teams. We have engaged ISOS for our activities in the last few years, and the level of monitoring, support and assistance makes us comfortable to undertake travel with our students.

Cost Structure

We aim to manage the cost of this trip/activity effectively without any compromise on safety.

The estimated cost for each trip is based on previous travel information as well as input from the travel agency at this stage. They are subject to price fluctuations involving currency, transportation costs, the number of students signing up, and activity costs. For safety, we will travel in groups and the transportation quotes - particularly flights, are rather high this year for group tickets. The quote for flight/train for group travellers is different than the individual price available on promotion on the internet.

Payment will be made in two instalments. We will ask for a deposit that will be used to hold flights and places with our providers on the ground. Withdrawal from the trip will mean we cannot refund the deposit, and depending on the date of withdrawal, we may not be able to refund some other costs paid. We will do our best to seek refunds. We will re-adjust/re-calculate the cost prior to the final instalment in September 2025.

Program Selection

Year groups refer to the next academic year starting in August 2025 to June 2026

Timeline

Selection Process

Before selecting the five options, students look through the information for each trip and discuss with their parents/guardians to make a decision together on which trip to sign up for.

Students and their parents/guardians must ensure:

  • Age range: the option is available for their year group

  • Physical and mental readiness: students are physically fit and mentally ready to do the trip and the activities

  • Affordability: ensure the price range is within the family’s budget

Once students and parents/guardians have listed five options, students must submit their options and indicate their preference for a travel buddy/ies by completing the Experience Selection Google Form (link below) for their year group. Students must log in and use their DC email address.

It is important to recognise that it may not be possible to allocate every student to their first preference. For this reason, please ensure that the other preferences are carefully considered. The activity allocation is not secured/confirmed until the deposit has been paid.

Year 8 & 9 NB 2025: Experience Selection Google Form

Year 10, 11, 12 NB 2025: Experience Selection Google Form

After the deadline, students will be allocated one of their five options based on the best-fit criteria rather than based on first-come-first-serve. We encourage you to take the time as a family to discuss, make decisions together, and submit your options within the deadline.
